How To Handle An Anthropologist, Session 11

Recorded January 23, 1998

In 1997 Frank was contacted by Russell Shuttleworth, a then University of California, Berkeley, graduate student,  working on his Master’s Thesis, which was a research study to help understand how men with moderate to severe cerebral palsy experience and interpret their search for intimacy and sexual relationships in the face of significant social and cultural barriers or as Frank called it, "The Sexual Practices of Bay Area Men with Cerebral Palsy"!!! He wanted to interview Frank for this thesis. That interview quickly segued into 12 years of him interviewing Frank about Frank's life. Meanwhile, Frank encouraged Russell to live his dreams which resulted in Russell aka Dr. Gruve, djing a show on our LUVeR internet radio station for years and playing the harmonica in Frank's Cherotic All-Star Band for many years. They did 88 interviews in all, even continuing via Skype when Russell moved to Australia to teach there. Russell is now a Medical Anthropologist PhD and a member of the faculty at Deakin University in Geelong, Victoria Australia. We have the first twelve of these sessions on videotape. We are in the process of transcribing and editing all of the interviews into a book that Frank named "How to Handle an Anthropologist".

How Berkeley Can You Be? Parade and Festival 2007

Recorded September 39, 2007

10/1/2007
Yesterday, as a part of our presidential campaign’s enough tour, we were in the how Berkeley Can you Be parade. It turned out to be one of the most effective pieces I have ever done. It was sheer fun! Below are the write-ups of it by Erika, and Corey and Alexi [A.K.A., Da Boyz] to flesh out the details. But it was amazing to see Dr. Richard Kerbavaz…now just “Rich”…my ear doctor of 20+ years outside helping Erika decorate our cars before we headed off to the parade…amazing that Carl L. who is building next door to us [he owns about half of our neighborhood and we had fiery battles with him for years], stopped working so that he could drive one of cars in the parade [Rich drove the other]…amazing that Carl Bryant, a labor activist, manned our booth in the park for hours until the parade had reached the park. What is amazing is the quality and the range of people that this campaign is bringing together!

The whole day blew me out. Linda and Mikee took turns pushing my chair close to the lines of people along the parade route so I could shake hands, look into people’s eyes, hear their responses, interact one on one…all of which would have been impossible if I sat on a truck. I was moved when people thanked me for running, when whole sections started clapping and chanting “GO, FRANK, GO!” Erika, Corey, Alexi, and sometimes Linda or Mikee gave out over 1,200 copies of the platform. And people didn’t throw it away as is common, but started reading it, shouting out planks they were moved by. I can see that “pressing the flesh” can be addicting! And a lot of people are devoted viewers of the public access shows of Suzy and mine.  “I WATCH YOU EVERY NIGHT!”  “WE TIVO YOU!”  “I LEARN FROM WATCHING YOUR SHOWS!”

Camping out in our beautiful booth…designed by Erika and set up by Da Boyz…was only slightly less intense. People got the tribal body that the 6 of us [Linda, Mikee, Erika, Da Boyz, and me] are together!

... around 8 p.m., the formal entertainment shock treatment started. First Jesse Beagle read her “Nude” poem for me. Then Kaye read a poem. Then Steve and I did a Zen/Zappa duet together... Steve playing his stand-up bass while I did vocals. Then the All-Star Jam faded in when Bob Madigan, Ann Madigan, Chris Cortese, Barney, Adam, Erika, Linda, Kirk Lumpkin, and Russell (a.k.a., Dr. Gruve) joined us to shift the joint into a surreal trance. Then our 13 year-old rocker neighbor, Adam, and his mom fled when Bob stripped and blew up a he-sex doll! A night to remember all of your life. And I for one will!

Out Of Isolation - Rehearsal - 1986

https://archive.org/download/out-of-isolation-dwinellehall-022086/out-of-isolation-dwinellehall-022086.mp4

Recorded February 20, 1986 at Dwinelle Hall, University of California, Berkeley.

Frank originally wrote the play to have something to do with a guy, Gary, who would direct it. He wrote it as a prose poem.

From Frank’s diary, January 1, 1986:
Gary and I held auditions for our project. The actor who we picked does have good instincts … but we are worried about her limits in depth and insight. We have dropped the nude scenes because of her. But still she is having problems being as vulnerable as we need her to be for the piece.

From Out Of Isolation:  A History of the Video, Thursday, September 19, 1996:
Anyway, when we were ready to cast the play, the director just chose an actress from the very first audition because he didn’t think we could get what we needed, so he settled...even though I told him when I direct I usually spend months finding the willing person for a part. But he was the director. The actress made it very clear from the start she wouldn’t do nudity. So the director threw out the nudity, not realizing that the nudity was not the real problem. The woman had a hard time even touching me! But the kicker was the actress saw the play as the nurse getting JIM out of the institution and into “the real world”. She kept making Jim look out a window to motivate him. I finally suggested to the director that he should tell her there ain’t no window. She totally freaked out and wrote us a Dear John letter. At that point he gave up on the project.

(This is a video of one of the rehearsals with this actress.)

It took me a year after that to cast it. Linda Sibio had been in several of my ritual performances in Los Angeles ... and she is a great performance artist in her own right. When I couldn’t find anybody in the San Francisco bay area, I asked her. She is very picky about what she enters into, but once she commits, she will do anything. We went down to L.A. for a week to shoot it. I had planned the first day to rehearse the whole piece ... but when we were on the mat ... without my board or Linda Mac ... Linda Sibio just took off her clothes and eroplayed with me for two hours ... and of course I’m flexible! Afterwards she said it was what she needed to get into the space/role. So we just shot the piece straight through each day for four days. I just spent a half hour before each day’s shooting going over with her the needed changes. The rest was improv.

Here is final edited video with Linda Sibio: https://archive.org/details/outofisolation

Frank Moore is internationally known for his mischievous avant-garde performances which at first appear childishly simple, but which devilishly suck the audience into a surreal and sensual underground where even serious can become silly without taboos to spoil their fun. Each piece is designed to goose your mind and morality … among other things.

Here is what Frank wrote:

Ah!  I loved jamming in the early morning in a hip club in Paris live and having people around the world see and hear us…  And we did not even have to leave our house in Berkeley Ca.!  We were asked to be a part of a worldwide online live streaming musical Marathon, THE NON STOP MUSIC PLANET.  This Marathon was a 24 hour journey around the world, streaming musical performances back to Paris.  It turns out we were one of just four acts from the United States.  The other performances were in Europe, South America, etc. So our piece was an hour jam, The Global Erotic Warming.  In Paris, they were fast cutting back and forth among various acts…  Until we came on.  Then they stayed with us for 45 minutes!  They even got a better player for projecting us on the big screens.  We also streamed the jam on LUVeR.  Funny, in the room here, it was intimate and cozy.  Most of us have played together for years.   And the new player, Ava, melted right in and played within the trance.   But it was then injected into what I imagine was a very hip scene.   Funny where we pop up!

Here is what DA BOYZ wrote:

We were checking out the Non Stop Music Planet website, which was really neat, watching them flip between different musical acts in progress in different areas of the world ... Mumbai, India, to Italy, to Poland...

Soon the jam was starting ... NSMP was trying to tune us in ... really neat to watch the whole process unfolding.  The jam was really neat, and seemed to just get more and more trance/dreamlike ... we imagined that it was just the perfect thing to listen to/watch in Paris at 5 in the morning after almost 20 hours of nonstop music ...  Beautiful cam shots of everyone!

Meanwhile we ate, and the sauce cooked away ...  NSMP kept the jam tuned in for 45 minutes straight ... and the jam went on ... it felt like it didn't want to stop after Linda named the band members!

Alexi continued on the sauce, and Corey sent cam shots, handed back the stream ... soon we were coming down to break down the set ... a fun conversation going on in the mac room ... histories and long friendships and Ava Bird's first jam!  What a fun night!

Stoney Speaks with Frank Moore

Recorded December 13, 2000 for B-TV, Berkeley's cable access channel.

Frank and Stoney go way back to the mid to late 1970s where they both were regular fixtures on UC Berkeley's Sproul Plaza. Stoney was a bit of a celebrity always gathering a large crowd of students around him as he read from the daily newspapers and made his commentary and kicked students' butts to get out there and protest the injustices he read about. Meanwhile Frank was wheeling up to students to talk, and invite them to be involved in whatever our latest project was from videoing to performances. This show is many years later. Stoney had been a guest on Frank's Shaman's Den five months earlier where he told Frank he was discouraged and ready to sell out. Here we see Frank kicking his ass about that!

Recorded March 14, 1986 at The Intersection for the Arts, San Francisco, California

This is the Wrapping/Rocking ritual toward the beginnings of it's life. We called this performance at The Intersection "The Ritual Cave".

Frank's description:
The Ritual Cave is a throw-back to a time long long ago when art was not just to view, when art was a magical release into a realm of all possibilities beyond time and limitation. Come into THE RITUAL CAVE and be pulled into the cozy semi-darkness of childhood dreams.

From their event calendar:

PERFORMANCE INSTALLMENTS
March 4 & 15

Frank Moore presents THE RITUAL CAVE, an exploration of childhood dreams and a time when art provided a realm of endless possibilities. Congenitally disabled and wheelchair-bound by cerebral palsy, performance artist Moore creates unorthodox works that evoke child-like playfulness and freedom from the emotions of isolation and fear.

A performance by Frank Moore
With Mary Esch & Linda Mac.

How To Handle An Anthropologist, Session 5

Recorded September 22, 1997

We are in the process of transcribing and editing all of the interviews into a book that Frank named "How to Handle an Anthropologist", http://www.eroplay.com/hthaa/.

Well, last night’s performance is the kind of thing where I don’t think much happened, but years later, somebody will come up to us and say that night changed his life.

Oh sure, there was an audience…which covered the studio rental…which means we can do another one there.  Sure, there was great live music by Dr. O., Keith, and a great guitarist…to which Erika, Kirsten, Linda and I nude skin explicitly, intimately danced together. Sure, living sculptures were created by and with audience members. But I had to struggle hard to get there! It was a night of “no’s”…even to simple requests. They were there wanting magic to happen. But they weren’t willing to invest themselves to make magic happen. For example…after an easy time getting someone to undress Linda…I had to pull teeth for about an hour to get people to undress the willing Kirsten and Erika! Figure that one out!

Recorded at 8th Street Studio, Berkeley, California, September 13, 2008

This was the climax of my two year presidential campaign.

A performance can be built on a good title…like THE EROTIC CAMPAIGN…FEEL, TOUCH THE POSSIBILITIES. The title creates a bubble of expectations that set off reactions which build a reality. The excuse for this performance was the U.K. Eurotrash TV show SEXARAMA…the title tells it all…wanted to do a piece on the campaign. I grabbed onto this excuse to do a 3-hour inter-active ritual. For the last few years I have been only doing band gigs. I knew probably the TV people would boil the hours of magic down to 5 minutes of sleazy fluff. But I am willing to risk! The difference between a band gig and an inter-active ritual is the band gig has fairly defined frames. But in an inter-active ritual I don’t know what will happen from one minute to the next. I do enter the performance with pictures. But it always becomes quickly obvious those pictures ain’t what is going to happen….so dive in and float!

Everything clicked. Great band full of my long-time Cherotic vets…a great space…an audience ready to combine politics, erotics, music, and personal magic.  I had to just not block it!

An excerpt from Frank Moore’s The Uncomfortable Zones Of Fun
Recorded Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Temescal Arts Center, Oakland, California

Below is what I wrote after this performance:

Ah!  How do you measure success in a performance?  Maybe when the audience [the people who come to the performance] start crying uncontrollably over releases of blocks that just disappeared just by walking through them with willingness and trust.  Or maybe when a young sexy co-ed rocks nude on your lap, arousing all kinds of new possibilities.  Or maybe when you attract a wide range of people, all ready to go all the way into the volcano, melting into a cozy little joyful community, willing to be uncomfortable and whatever else it takes to go into adventures of fun, floating on the mood music of Kene-J and a psychology grad student… The community so strong that they [most of them] kept staying, playing together, long after the “performance” was “over”, and then most of them went to an apartment of one of them to continue hanging out together!  And I’m not even getting into what they said of how the performance effected them! [See the full write-up at the link below for that!] I am just glad I didn’t get in the way of the potential of the night!

Yep!  It was a great deep success! And the series is clearly building, tapping into the young art school student community, among other groups. Ah, yes, very dangerous and subversive! You need to do something for at least a year to start this kind of building. And it goes in waves. The art student came months ago. She went home all shining and open and vulnerable and creative. Her roommates and friends saw the changes in her. So when they came, they were ready to go into it explicitly. This audience was the most explicitly ready in over a year!

Performance series at University of California, Berkeley
Recorded April 4, 2003.

This is one of the most jam packed nights of this underground series we did for two years on the university.  This night included the world famous photographer Eric Kroll doing a shoot with a beautiful nude model (she ended up whipping me!), a mad naked woman keening, a guy who looked a lot like Extreme Elvis who I got to sing IN THE GHETTO with a trance band (including Lena the Jaw Harp Queen)  backing him as most of the "audience" danced nude erotically playfully together.  What a night!

Creativity n Shit feat- Linda Mac and Mikee LaBash by Future of Minds

Recorded April 30, 2015.

Kayla came knocking at our door one week ago, carrying her infant baby and asked, "What is going on with this house?! What are you guys about?!" She told us she was a journalist. We invited her in and ending up talking for 40 minutes, showing her some of the house and telling her some of our stories. She asked if she could come back with her camera and interview us. She left with a copy of Frankly Speaking and urls to our websites.

Kayla came over yesterday for what was supposed to be a 35-40 minute video interview and ended up being here for 2 hours! She's great. She did her homework. She spent eight hours watching videos, reading Frank's writings, exploring the websites and being blown away by Frank & our lives. She asked good, deep questions. She's inspired. She moved here from Fresno when she got a large grant to go to CCA, but dropped out when she experienced the combine at work, stifling the art, discouraging or not "getting" the visions of the students. So now she just DOES the art, her "journalism" which is really about creating community.

This was the kind of night that at first it looked like nothing would happen.  But then it turned out that a guy in the audience was a butoh dancer.  So he and I did a long surreal slow naked dance together.  This erotically enlivened  the whole tribal body into direct explicit participation!  You never know!

A Rant On An Open Mic

Frank Moore and Corey Nicholl reading Frank's poem "A Rant On An Open Mic" at Spasso's Cafe in Berkeley, August 1995.

We found out that the host of this very popular, very influential poetry series was the person who was going around town and removing fliers from the telephone poles. Putting fliers up on telephone poles is the most effective and sometimes the only way of letting people know about an event if it is not mainstream and covered in the newspapers. Frank had had Corey "out" this host at a previous night's readings (the host denied it was him) and as a consequence the host had banned Corey from reading at the open mic portion of his series. So, we showed up at the next reading and Frank had Corey sign Frank up to read as part of the open mic and of course had Corey read his poem. As you can see the host was extremely gracious to both Frank and Corey.

As part of Frank's introduction to his poem being read he says "I am starting a series of art and poetry posters that we will put up on telephone poles all over the Bay Area. I am accepting stuff for it." You can see a poster with a poem written by a local poet from this series here: http://www.eroplay.com/posters/poster15.html. And here is the poem Frank wrote for this series called "Naked Poles": http://www.eroplay.com/Cave/Writings/naked-poles.html.

Frank's poem that Corey reads in this video is here:

a rant on an open mic (from http://www.eroplay.com/chappedlap/rant-on-an-open-mic.html)

the open mike
is the most democratic channel...
well maybe except for hyde park sproul soapbox freedom.
anyone can sign up
to step up to bat,
step up to the mike
and into the sacred belljar
where art poetry is free to expose truth,
free to use whatever it takes,
whatever style it takes to expose truth...
that is, until your given time runs out
and hooks you around the neck and yanks you
from the belljar stage.
but in the belljar channel
you are in danger testing, crying, being so sucking bad that both
you and they curse your birth, sharing found ideas, listening to
the silence and the polite clapping greeting your bombs or to your
ravings of rage that hit too close to home, messing up the nice
polite parlor.

entering the open mike belljar is a leap into uncontrolled
possibilities, uncomfortable quest through good bad boring
embarrassing and sometimes magical.

nobody owns the belljar,
except when you are in the channel,
in the pipe behind the mike,
holding the modern talking stick
until it is time to pass it on to the next.
but the talking stick is everyone's,
for anyone with something to express.
if one is banned, censored, from holding the talking stick
just to punish, just to protect a neat fragile nice order,
we all are banished from the sacred talking stick which becomes
just a cock that we rub.

i get worried if my words and images fit through veins clogged
with fatty taboos of polite appropriate of comfortability.

i get worried...is the art that small that it fits through that
pinhole of a hole...so small that nudes on the walls, words on
telephone poles, any shift in the social power structure threatens
the very reality fabric.

i'm too proud to admit the art poetry is that small.
so my art becomes a roto-rooting balloon covered in razors
tipped in draino acid,
pushing pressuring uncomfortable unsocial grinding against the
grain until the killer fatty clots of taboos burst out the other end
and go down the drain like trouble.

i don't really go after the hitlers, the mccarthys, the helms,
or their brown shirts.

they are just limp-dicked power-junkies with swiss-cheese egos,
each hole filled with inferiority. they are just moons with no
power light of themselves, just reflecting fear.

no, i go after the nice people who never asked where the trains
were going, boxcars filled with people. didn't have to. only
suspected, only heard rumors...after all, the general is a friend.
never said, excuse me, i am a jew too, a jap too, a gay too, i've negro
blood running in my body, aids too. i'm a commie who took home
movies of our nude kids. so better put me on that train too. better
put us all on that train. there ain't no train big enough!

i go after the nice people who keep going to work after seeing
their friends missing, after hearing rumors of blacklist and
blackball. must write something about that subject to THE TIMES.
he used to be such a pleasant fellow...but now he is a whining
paranoid...not a sort to have to tea. he is like a wet messy fart.
not in my backyard!

yes, i go after nice people. but my time in the belljar is about over.
so i'll leave you with this. what is happening in your backyard is
what really matters. so be sure to weed!

This is the first thing we did with Pamela Walker. She told us off camera during this shoot that even though she acknowledges Frank's historical importance in that he was doing art before most disabled people even thought of themselves as people let alone artists, it doesn't mean she has to like what he does!!

Pamela went on to include a section on Frank in her 2005 book, Moving Over the Edge, Artists with Disabilities Take the Leap. You can read the excerpt here: eroplay.com/Cave/pamelakaywalker.html

This is a hidden treasure we just dug out of the very bottom box of oldest tapes!

It was something Frank edited together when we were trying to get booked to perform at spaces to show them what we had done.

It starts out with our classic singing of the Sonny & Cher song "Somebody" from the Berkeley Square show in 1988. Then it goes into the Cave segment of the ritual performance "Inner Traveling" that  we did at the Northwest Artists Workshop in Portland in 1989. The next segments are from "Journey to Lila" when we performed it for 2 weekend nights at EZTV in Los Angeles. One of the segments from this performance features Carlos chanting Frank's writings in one of the last performances Carlos did with us. Frank had him playing the Dying Man, wearing a sign around his neck "I HAVE AIDS". Frank believed in type casting. Although not seen in these segments, at the beginning of this performance Frank had people individually led into a small tent at the beginning of the performance where nude Carlos with his I HAVE AIDS sign around his neck would talk to them about how dying is not something to be feared and is not something that is painful in and of itself.

The final performance included in these segments is the performance ritual Wrapping/Rocking that we did at The Sixth Sense Gallery in N.Y.C. in 1987 that was featured in the film MONDO NEW YORK. Veronica Vera rocked with Frank while Annie Sprinkle and Sabina wrapped them and I read Frank's poem.

Frank & Jonathan “King Lear” with Suzanna and Mary

We met Jonathan when he answered one of our CALLBOARD ads. CALLBOARD is a straight Bay Area theater listing publication that we would sometimes list in.

Our ad read:
Cutting Edge Productions is casting for males & females for THE EDGE, a company of experimental theatre and performance art.

Jonathan had moved to San Francisco from the mid-west with his wife and was scheduled to study at ACT (American Conservatory Theater) in the fall and had been looking for something to do for the summer and signed on to work with Frank as part of Frank’s weekly workshop in Performance that we did at a local private kids’ school in a space we rented.

We met Suzanna when she attended one of our first “Wrapping/Rocking” performances at The Intersection for the Arts in San Francisco in 1986. She worked with Frank for a few years.

Mary was living with us at this point. She had been working with Frank since the 1970s and had been part of the Outrageous Beauty Revue.

These are the instructions that Frank gave Erika for this ritual:

A DANCE RITUAL

Frank Moore

1/26/03

Lower the lights.

Squat in the center of the room, holding yourself very tightly, rocking, fully dressed, maintaining boundaries, making whatever sounds, all tight, all “self-contained.”

When you are ready…it doesn’t matter how long this takes…let yourself expand into the room, while still squatting and rocking. Relax.

Let yourself expand into me when you are ready…it doesn’t matter how long this takes…and take me into you when you are ready…it doesn’t matter how long this takes…all the while squatting and rocking.

When you are ready, move around the room, making deep sounds within a relaxed freedom. Slowly remove your clothes… when you are ready…it doesn’t matter how long this takes. Let yourself expand outside of the studio, taking everything into you.

When you are ready…it doesn’t matter how long this takes…dance with me, drawing everything in the room into the rapture state of our combine being, making deep sounds within a relaxed freedom.

When you are ready…it doesn’t matter how long this takes…sit on me and rock/rub our combined being into a rapture state, making deep sounds within a relaxed freedom. Remain in this state.

We here have been fighting the Kimo’s virus for the last two weeks … I got it from Fluff Grrl’s Bob at the Kimo’s gig. That is why the esalon has been so quiet. The only thing I did during that time is the Shaman’s Den and a poetry reading at Café International … the show has to go on!

In fact, I didn’t feel completely better until Bob kissed my cock (… or was it when I felt Barb up … or when Linda tansexually writhed on me?) on stage Friday at John the Baker’s Burnt Ramen … go figure! Awesome 10-person band … Bob, Barney and Goeff/Kristen from Fluff Grrl, Barb, John, Gio, Teresa, Linda and me … and Anne, Bob’s wife, whom I drafted into the band after I heard her sing during Fluff Grrl’s set before ours. We took the wall of sound to a new level. People even clapped after the set … a rarity at a “punk club”!

I have to say Burn Ramen is about the best club I have played at! It’s pure underground! And the dogs running everywhere are a nice touch!

I am so much better that I took on a new age “anti-racist” racist last night!

THE CHEROTIC ALL STARS were next. Ki-lin on guitar, Lob on bass, Barb and Corey on keyboards. Me in my rock star role belting out songs. Besides the band, I had a tape of the songs playing ... sort of audio subtitles. Cher (Linda) in a topless fake leopard hot non-covering play suit and wide open fringe leather vest joined me for THE BEAT GOES ON. (That act has transmuted since Sonny's death.) Then Heidi ... dressed only in ribbons, a little blue scarf, and a black see-through net top ... appeared on stage, dancing very sexy, rubbing me as I tried to focus on singing. In the middle of this, a woman from the audience (nope, she wasn't a plant) got on stage to join in the dancing and to sign the songs for any deaf people in the audience! Heidi and the signer left the stage. But the signer came back to sign my pleas and threats to the heartless and trashy RUBY (mini-skirted Linda) in the Kenny Roger's song. Lob and the two women left the stage while I did MIND GAMES. But he joined back in on MAGIC IS AFOOT, the last song.

So it was time for the jam! Most of the audience was gone. The floor was flooded with newspaper, chairs piled in front of the stage. I first collared the would-be artist and had him dismantle his sculpture. Then I had everyone who had stayed move close to the stage. THE CASIOTONES merged with THE CHEROTIC ALL-STARS. I loved vocally jamming with this huge band. But I will break down and get a head-mike before the next gig so I can dance while singing. We all jammed with Linda (this time clad only in a black see-through dress) as she read my poetry. Unfortunately the vibes weren't right to do the planned erotic ritual ... maybe next time!

Another forgotten gem!

This is one of two benefits for Berkeley-based CAL-ACT (Californians Against Censorship) that we performed in in 1992.

The first one was at the Mitchell Brothers' O'Farrell Theater on June 14, 1992 where Frank danced erotically nude on stage with Nina Hartley. Unfortunately we were not able to document that one for legal reasons!

At this one while Frank sang along with Queen's song, "I Want it All" and Beasts of Bourbon's "Lonesome Bones" nude Mikee and Tina (Frank's student at the time) danced erotically together while covering each other in glitter, chocolate and whipped cream, and almost nude me (Linda) stalked the audience with my monster, nude Alexi, who was on all fours, until we found our victim who was devoured by Alexi while she laid on the floor next to Frank in the strobe lights. (The "Meat Act" from the OBR days!) It ends with the victim being resurrected and we all stand together and sing Sonny and Cher's "Somebody" (You've got to have somebody!!)

From the poster:
CAL-ACT (Californians Against Censorship Together) will hold a benefit on December 5, at 8 PM at the Humanist Fellowship Hall, 411 28th Street, Oakland, California. At this “Uncensored Evening With …” The performers include Stoney Burke, street comedian and political commentator; Bobby Lilly, Chairperson of CAL-ACT; Mark Pritchard, performance artist and editor of Frighten the Horses; Carol Queen, writer and performer; Frank Moore, controversial Bay Area performance artist known for his erotic ritualistic performances; Richard Pacheco, writer and former adult actor; Marcy Steiner, writer and editor of ON OUR BACKS; and SHAR associate editor of ON OUR BACKS and San Francisco’s Hottest Femme dancer.

The readings and performances at this event are sexually explicit and Not Politically Correct!

This was the second Shaman's Den show that we did!
It was on August 31, 1998 and we were on FAKE Radio. This was before LUVeR.
This was even before we were recording the shows, so we were very happy to discover this seven minute video of Fred and Frank dancing together. WOW!

B-TV 20th Anniversary Live Cable TV Special

Recorded December 6, 2014.

It is always so much fun reading Frank's amazing poems and last night was no exception.

After bragging about Frank's almost 15 years of producing his 2 1/2 hour weekly show, Unlimited Possibilities (this week's show is episode #600!) for B-tv and mentioning the other two shows that still play as replays on B-tv (Going Deep to the Core at Burnt Ramen with Frank Moore and Deep Core Magic) and then mentioning that Frank brought Dr. Suzy to Berkeley and continues as sponsor of Suzy's weekly, very popular show, I ended by reminding people that Frank was on the forefront of the fight to keep uncensored adult programming on B-tv.

I introduced the reading of the poems by saying that I have been reading Frank's poems for almost 40 years but up until a year ago Frank always read them with me, so ...  That was Erika's cue to hit play on the CD player and out came Frank's voice booming and then I started reading. Super great!! Our wonderful Tomek came and set up his rig of music-making contraptions and played along in that amazing way that he does with the poems and Frank's voice.

I read three poems (instead of the four that we had planned). Brian cut us short because he fell way behind schedule and it was a live TV show. Perhaps I tried to bully a bit to read that last poem, but he didn't go for it!!

Then to our surprise, Kirk Lumpkin was the next performer and he started out with an intro about knowing who he would be following and so read his amazing poem that he wrote for Frank after Frank's passing.

It was a great night.

Friends of the Studio presents The Edge in Frank Moore’s Awake Dreams
Free series of live performances supported by a grant from The National Endowment for Arts
7 P.M.
Rm. 125 Dwinelle, U.C. Berkeley
Thursday – June 26, July 10, July 24, August 7 1986

Awake Dreams are improvised mischievous avant-garde performances which at first appear childishly simple, but which devilishly suck the audience into a surreal and sensual underground where even serious can become silly without taboos to spoil their fun. Each piece is designed to goose your mind and morality … among other things.

Frank Moore is a well-known performance artist who always tries to create a dream reality in which anything is possible.

The Edge is an avant-garde company of actors and artists founded and directed by Frank. The Edge is focused on subversion, on magic, on altering reality … and is not afraid of combining individual arts together.

Of Frank Moore’s Performance Art

“Surely wonderful and mind-goosing experience.”
 - L.A. Reader

“Raucous and startling”
 - L.A. Times

“Important, sensual, spiritual”
 - Rachel Rosenthal

“Frank Moore succeeds in pulling us into his world … he turns in one helluva performance.”
